INTERMISSION

shot_1406257983173Los Angeles is in a constant state of change. One of the best visualizations of how Hollywood Blvd has changed over the years can be seen in Ed Ruscha’s short film about Hollywood Blvd.

It is interesting how this was done. In a time before Google Maps, Ruscha and his team built this camera contraption that was mounted inside a van, where the first row of passenger seats would have been. They would drive down Hollywood Blvd. at slow speeds open the sliding door and shoot film.

If you are familiar with the area at all you will see that some of the businesses, last shot in 2002, are no longer there. I wish that Swensesn’s ice cream were still on that corner.
