Where to see celebrities in the wild

The Season of Celebrity is upon us. The past few weeks have brought us award show after award show, now are the final press junkets, television shows wondering who people will be wearing. This also means that many celebrities are actually in L.A. taking breaks from filming. If you are looking to see celebrities in the wild I offer the following for your consideration.

I have seen quite a few celebrities in my time in Los Angeles, but I have never gone up to someone and talked to them. My one regret is not telling LaVar Burton how much Reading Rainbow meant to me as a child when I saw him at LAX. One of the TSA agents said to him “Hey dude, you taught me how to read!” How true for so many of us.

These are the neighborhoods and locations that I have seen celebrities in the wild.

Larchmont

Larchmont doesn’t seem like it fits in Los Angeles, this low-key neighborhood with its main street and Sunday farmers’ market seems more like it belongs in the midwest or the east coast. Its proximity to Paramount Studios and the affluent area of Hancock Park make it the perfect place to see “people” on their way to work or home.

This area has exploded in the past few years since I moved out of this neighborhood. This area now has gourmet bakeries, restaurants, ice creams, and coffee shops–many I mentioned in this post. The farmers’ market is a draw for the area residents who include stars of the small and big screen as well as Los Angeles’ mayor. Also, I happen to think that Larchmont Wine and Cheese has the best sandwiches in Los Angeles, in my humble opinion.

Celebrities seen: Tony Schalhoub, Brooke Adams, Victor Garber, Dave Navarro, James Spader, and Jeremy Remar.

On the Red Carpet

A couple of posts ago I mentioned the time I won tickets to the 86th Academy Awards in March of 2014. How did I win? I entered, and so can you. Wait until after this the awards air this year on February 9th and go to the Oscars Red Carpet Fan Experience. Clicking the enter to win link and filling out some information is exactly how I ended up taking my grandmother to the Oscars.

Getting bleacher seat tickets was a great experience and really as close as us normals can get to all of the fashion and celebrity. We saw everybody. Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and more including those posted above.

I had hoped by the time I wrote this post that the Academy Museum would be open, but they are experiencing long delays. Last I heard the museum will open in April 2021.

Polo Lounge on Oscar weekend

Palm wallpaper, Beverly Hills Hotel

Part of the Award Ceremony itinerary, while my grandmother was here, included lunching where the “people” lunch. The Polo Lounge inside the pink Beverly Hills Hotel on Sunset Blvd. is one of the classic old Hollywood places that is still a hot spot for celebrities. Prepare to be looked up and down, we thought slightly familiar strangers were “people” and others thought we were “people.”

You are paying for location and ambiance at the Polo Lounge. The food for lunch isn’t exactly stellar for the cost and the cheapest glass of wine is $25. I recommend going to their weekday breakfast, which is much cheaper, plus you can take their souvenir jams home.

Celebrities seen: Fran Lebowitz, Catherine O’Hara, Spike Lee, and Sophia Coppola.

The Getty

I feel like this is a safe haven in the sky for celebrities. Although I have seen quite a few at the Getty, I have never seen a TMZ van, photogs hiding in trees, or anyone under attack while they have been looking at Van Gogh’s Irises. Keep your eyes peeled, you never know who you might run into.

Celebrities seen: Dustin Hoffman, Natalie Portman, Orlando Bloom, Miranda Kerr, Demi Moore, and Rumor Willis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie

Also, don’t forget the time my mother and I saw Rod Stewart at the Century City Mall.

I hope this post gave you a lot of ideas about where to “happen” to see celebrities in the wild.

Coming up…How did this blog get that random name anyway?
