Most popular posts of 2020

This Ugly Beautiful City’s most-read posts of 2020 concentrated on nature, art, and food. In case you missed them here are the top five posts of last year.

Number one: Leo Carrillo State Beach tide pools

One thing you were able to do in Los Angeles this year was to explore nature. From L.A.’s popular hiking spots to its lesser known beaches, getting out in the open air was very important to you. That is why I think learning about Leo Carrillo State Beach was popular among readers.

This post talks about tide pools and all of the things you can find when you take a quiet moment with nature. [Read more here]

Number two: Los Angeles Safer at Home take-out guide part one

I hope that my take-out guides have given you some great options for where to get great take-out in Los Angeles. The first post in this series concentrated on quality while being more budget-friendly. This post is definitely due for an update as I discovered more places that have become favorites. Stay tuned for that. [Read more here]

Number three: Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine

A secret thing that gives me joy is when I reveal new places to Angelenos who have lived here all of their lives. One of these places is an oasis hiding on Sunset Blvd, The Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine. This garden, lake, and meditation space is a perfect place for self-care no matter what year it is. It is open during the pandemic with limited tickets opening every Monday. [Read more here]

Number four: The Eames House or Case Study House #8

The Southern California/Mid-Century Modern style is still coveted around the world today. You might not know that much about Charles or Ray Eames, but all you have to do is open an architectural or interior design magazine, scroll your Pinterest feed, or wander around Design Within Reach to see their work. The house they built for themselves in Pacific Palisades is a (Sustainable) architecture lover’s dream. [Read more here]

Number five: Exploring the Palms neighborhood

I have gotten up close and personal with my neighborhood during the lockdown. Palms is known for being a commuter’s neighborhood. It is a perfect place to jump on the 10, the 405, or the train. It is, however, a great place to grab a bite to eat–we have a two Michelin starred restaurant here. A great place to give to or take from free book and puzzle libraries. [Read more here]

A post I loved writing: My experience with a psychic in Los Angeles

This was a fun experience to remember. I am coming up on my fifteen year LAnniversary this week on Wednesay. It is good to look back on those moments when I wasn’t so in love with Los Angeles. When this city was giving me a hard time. Although seeing a psychic started as a silly experiment, in the end, it narrowed down my chaotic thoughts, and I was thankful even if a lot of my reading didn’t come true. [Read more here]

Thank you very much to all of the people who read my posts. I hope I am helping you discover new and interesting things about Los Angeles. All of these images are pinnable on Pinterest, if you have an account, share the love.
