Demystifying Malibu
There was a time when the only thing I knew about Malibu was that was the town where Barbie had her fabulous dream house and life with Ken in his skin-colored briefs. When I was a little older, Malibu was the playground of the rich and famous. Weekly, Robin Leach would bring me inside their fabulous life and homes. Malibu felt like a place wealthy people lived, therefore no place for me. Over the next few posts, I want to demystify Malibu. I want you to know that you belong here just as much as anyone else.
Yes, there is a lot of wealth here. There are also twenty-seven miles of beaches and even more miles of hiking trails that snake up the Santa Monica mountains. There are hidden gems hiding in its canyons and thousands of species of wildlife. Malibu is a gateway to a natural wonderland.
I won’t have any 101 type posts about Malibu because I feel like this Los Angeles city is all bonus material.
Also, as an employee, I am unable to write about the Getty Villa located just into the Malibu city limits from Pacific Palisades. For information about that museum, this website offers an overview of what you will find there. I also love the essay about it in Joan Didion’s The White Album.
My first post about Malibu, coming up next, offers something for nature lovers and star-gazers.
