The first things I’ll do when Los Angeles reopens

After five-plus months I have started dreaming of getting out and exploring my city again. I miss Los Angeles even though I live here. As you learned in my most recent post, I am spending a whole lot of time in Palms. Here are the first things I am going to do when Los Angeles reopens and we can move about this city without restrictions.

Number one: Explore Los Feliz

Los Feliz sidewalk. Exploring Los Feliz when Los Angles reopens.

Before the safer at home order was put into effect, I was just starting to deep dive into Los Feliz. I talked about Los Feliz shopping and entertainment, highlighting some of my favorite things to do along Vermont and Hillhurst Avenues. The everything space of Griffith Park just got an introduction before the Los Angeles, Safer at Home order went into effect.

I had intended to go back to Los Feliz both on the blog and physically in March, but then you know what happened next. It has been a while since I really explored this neighborhood. I had a date set for a food tour of Los Feliz so that I could give you some current recommendations for great places to eat. I also planned to re-explore Griffith Park to give you some current free ways to get some exercise and visit the Autry again.

Once I can explore Los Feliz, I will get back into that deep dive. You may notice a break and a switch to the beach towns before I can get back to those Los Feliz posts.

Number two: Take photos

Do you remember hipstamatic?

Well, my camera roll surely does. I remember it being “the” thing when I decided to get out of my first Los Angeles neighborhood of Larchmont and explore more of Los Angeles. That was probably circa 2010. Those vintage, but not vintage, photos of Los Angeles look a little dated–in a bad way. At times it leaves me a little lost for when I need a photo for a post. Do I post these photos and look dated and unprofessional or do I go back out there and re-photograph L.A.? I think my answer is to go back and photograph L.A. when Los Angeles reopens. Although I can do some of this now, places I want to capture are still closed, like Griffith Park.

Note to bloggers, and self, try not to depend on trends to convey your information. You might look back on it and be embarrassed. Like those 80s bangs and shoulder pads photos.

Number three: Visit my favorite places

Yup, I am segueing you to my next series, my favorite places in Los Angeles. Upcoming on the blog are the special places that I miss. Some of them have recently reopened with social distancing and some, unfortunately, remain closed.

I will be jumping around the city to talk about the places I really love and I think you should love too. This series is what is upcoming on the blog starting a week from today.

Do you think I forgot the fifth thing I have been doing since the safer at home order? I haven’t. I need your help. Check out this page for ways you can participate.

What are the first things you are going to do when your city reopens?
